PRE-RIDE LETTER

Greetings, Fast approaching, as in 2007, I will again embark upon a huge adventure in July that is extremely important to our family and friends. I’ll be riding in the 2009 Cops Cycling for Indiana C.O.P.S. charity event in honor of my father, Capt. James Baugh (Putnam Co Sheriff’s Dept), Sgt. Dan Starnes (Morgan Co Sheriff’s Dept), Deputy Thomas Dunigan (Morgan Co Sheriff’s Dept), Sr. Trooper James Bartram (Indiana State Police) and all law enforcement officers killed in-the-line-of-duty.

Cops Cycling for Indiana C.O.P.S. consists of Indiana Police Officers along with friends, family and survivors bicycling to honor fallen officers. Funding will assist in providing: Financial assistance to family members of fallen officers by helping defray the costs associated with National Police Week, National C.O.P.S. seminars for children, siblings, parents, adult children and spouses of fallen officers; Needs associated with criminal trials; Continuous support of survivors in need; and Support items and business needs of the Indiana Chapter of Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.).

Our 13 day, 1000 mile cycling ride begins on Monday, July 20th at the Indiana Police Officers Memorial in downtown Indianapolis and takes us south and around the perimeter of Indiana visiting the families, friends and co-workers of our most recent officers lost in-service and those lost in previous years. We make many stops visiting officer gravesites and departments. We may be close to your area; and you are welcome to visit our group at any point in the ride. The Ride ends on Saturday, August 1st at the Heroes of Public Safety Memorial in Crown Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis.

My goal is to raise $1000 in our effort. Any sponsorship and support you can contribute toward this cause is greatly appreciated. In addition to monetary donations, I have event tee shirts available for $10 each. The profit from each shirt sold goes toward my fundraising goal. Attached, you’ll find a Rider Sponsorship Form, our Activity and Route Information and a Tee Shirt Order Form. If you have an interest in sponsoring me in this endeavor, please don’t hesitate to let me know.

As an added bonus, Verizon Wireless supplies us with phones and GPS, which will allow you to follow our progress online throughout the event.

For those near the Indianapolis area, on Friday, July 10th we have our Cops Cycling on the Circle event downtown Indy in front of WIBC to raise funds and awareness for this event. We’ll have cyclists on stationary bikes, rain or shine, from 6 am until midnight. I’ll be there to ride a portion of that event.

If you have any questions or comments, feel free to contact me. Please pass this information to any friends or family that may share an interest.

Thanks in advance for your continuing support,
Jason
